User Account Control (UAC) is a security mechanism introduced starting from Windows Vista and Server 2008. For remote users to be able to perform administrative tasks on a computer, this feature should be explicitly disabled.

Below you can find the instructions on disabling UAC on the remote computer, either completely, or for remote administrators only.

Disable UAC for remote administrators:

  1. Click the Start button, type REGEDIT in the Start Search box and press Enter.
  2. Locate this registry key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\system
  3. Double-click the LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy value and set it to 1. (If this value doesn’t exist, create it; it should be of type DWORD.)
  4. Restart the computer.

Disable UAC completely:

  1. Go to the Start Menu → Control Panel → User Accounts and Family Safety → User Accounts → Change User Account Control Setting.
  2. Slide the slider bar to the lowest value with description Never notify.
  3. Restart the computer.
