Getting started with Advanced Serial Port Terminal

This section provides you a simple step-by-step guide how to get on board with Advance Serial Port Terminal as quickly as possible, leaving alone any customization settings.

  1. Once you have launched the application, you have to create new serial port connection. Select "File" -> "New Connection" menu option or simply press "Alt" + "N" buttons to invoke "New session" dialog window.
  2. Specify necessary connection settings such as serial port number, baudrate, parity, stop bits, etc. to match connection settings of remote serial port end. Click "Open" button to create new session.
  3. Once the connection is created you have to open the serial port to be able to use it. To open it you may do one of the following:
    • Select "File" -> "Open port" from Main Menu
    • Click "Open Port" button in Toolbar
    • Press "Alt" + "O"
Please, note, that you must have at least one free (not occupied by other programs) serial port to be able to open it.
  4. After communication port has being successfully opened you may send any data including text or binary files, text/binary/octal/decimal/hexadecimal blocks of data, examine serial port response, etc. Type in any command you want to issue in "Send" panel and click "Send" button. Please, note that you won't be able to view sent data unless you enable "Echo" option.
